Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the post of Senior Data Scientist in the Centre for Applied Artificial Intelligence (CeADAR).  CeADAR is seeking an experienced and high-calibre individual who has a demonstrated successful track record in AI/data science covering technical leadership, securing funding awards, project management and business development activities.  The successful candidate will also be expected to assist in setting the strategic agenda for the Centre.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Technical

  • Technical leadership and oversight of projects undertaken by the research team, including open innovation projects in association with company partners and state agency funded projects such as under the EI Innovation Partnership Programme.
  • Hands-on research and development activities as required, including devising technical solutions, implementing software, evaluating proposed solutions in the field of AI and analytics. Specific areas of expertise include: explainable AI, machine learning (including deep learning), computer vision, real-time and time series data analytics, text mining and natural language processing, big data processing and storage frameworks
  • Dissemination of research outputs and evangelisation of technologies at industry seminars and conferences.
  • Authorship of technical papers, project reports, white papers, state-of-the-art reports and related documents.
  • Communication of data driven insights to non-technical audiences

Management/Organisational

  • Management of team members
  • Scoping, planning and costing of research projects for industry partners
  • Flexibility to travel when required to attend European events, meetings and conferences

Business Development

  • Active pursuit of funding awards both nationally and internationally specifically Horizon Europe
  • Involvement in external industry, academic and government groups and fora with a view to publicising and promoting the activities of the centre

Selection Criteria
Selection criteria outline the qualifications, skills, knowledge and/or experience that the successful candidate would need to demonstrate for successful discharge of the responsibilities of the post. Applications will be assessed on the basis of how well candidates satisfy these criteria.

Mandatory

  • PhD in computer science or a closely related discipline
  • Experience as a technical leader
  • Strong software development skills using Java, Python, Scala or similar languages, and strong database skills
  • Knowledge of AI and data analytics methods and extensive experience with several of: deep learning and relevant technologies (e.g. TensorFlow, Keras), advanced machine learning and related technologies (e.g. Weka, H20.ai, Scikitlearn)
  • Experience in scoping, planning and costing of research projects with industry partners
  • Experience managing AI/data analytics projects with industry partners particularly developing project specifications and delivering to specification and to deadlines on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience in European projects, both developing proposals and participating in the execution and coordination of projects.
  • Experiencing building consortia and writing proposals using national funding instruments
  • Excellent communication skills with demonstrated experience of writing technical papers, project reports and state of the art reviews

Salary range: €60,000 – €73,000 per annum
